Cocktails with Godzilla at Kaiju Bar

Cocktails with Godzilla at Kaiju Bar

Hello and welcome to Cinema Wellman. I am your host David, and Happy Godzilla Day to you all!

Godzilla Day is held annually on November 3rd to celebrate the anniversary of the original Godzilla film’s 1954 debut, so the big guy is 72 this year.

A couple of years ago, while on a Godzilla spending spree, I purchased the Official Godzilla Cookbook by Kayce Baker via Titan Books.

I love this cookbook, although many of the recipes have what I call “brick wall” ingredients.

I’d find something I wanted to cook, and this is how it usually went with ingredients; “Got it, got it, got it, got it .... they want me to add what?!”

Some of these “brick wall” ingredients include edible gold, dried hibiscus flowers, pineapple popping candy, gator tenderloin, raw kelp, Hon dashi powder, and “forbidden” rice.

Last Godzilla Day I made a few manageable dishes from the cookbook, and this year I decided to do a little “Godzilla Flight” and try eight of the cocktails featured in the cookbook.

ALL of these cocktails are new to me, so I have no idea if I’m going to like them or spit them into a bucket.

Good thing there’s no bucket in the Cinema Wellman studio.

In for a penny, in for a pound.

Let’s start out…

From the Depths

12 oz. ginger beer

1 oz. melon liqueur

½ oz. lime juice

Sea salt rim

“There’s no mistaking the furious bubbling that foretells its arrival. Sit back and relax with this refreshing cocktail as you look out to the sea and watch as Godzilla rises from its depths. And then maybe run.”

Godzilla’s Heat Ray

4 oz.'s dry sake

2 oz. blue curacao

ice

“The cool, blue hue of this drink is reminiscent of the color of Godzilla’s legendary heat ray!”

Godzilla’s Spiral Heat Ray

2 oz. tequila

¼ tsp. Wasabi powder

½ oz agave syrup

ice

“Where the ‘Godzilla’s Heat Ray’ drink reflects the color of the kaiju’s breath, this one reflects how it might really feel!

Space Titanium Sling

1 oz. rum

½ oz. blood orange liqueur

1 tsp brown sugar

1 oz pineapple juice

½ oz lime juice

Seltzer (topper)

ice

“Mecha Godzilla was created with Space Titanium, and with a few simple modifications to its molecular composition you too can create a concoction worthy of its own element.”

Planet 3 Cocktail

2 oz. melon liqueur

4 oz. seltzer

Honeydew wedge

ice

“Black Hole Planet 3 Simians seem to love this drink. Well, at least those in charge do - it helps with their sinister laugh.”

Victory Dance Twist

2 oz. vodka

4 oz. ginger beer

1 oz. lime juice

1 oz. pineapple juice

ice

“Godzilla loves a good celebration, so snap, crackle, and jump with this lively concoction.”

The GPN

2 oz. tequila

2 oz. lime juice

8 oz. ginger beer

¼ tsp sea salt

1 sprig rosemary

ice

“Predicting earthquakes is one thing, but predicting when Godzilla will arise from the sea and strike next? That is a job for the GPN (Godzilla Prediction Network), and this is one of their favorite tipples.”

The Oxygen Destroyer

1 oz. tequila

½ oz. blue curacao

¼ oz. grenadine

Lime wedge

“Dr. Serizawa’s invention solved the original Godzilla problem. This version doesn’t do that, but it will solve any thirst problem!”

Well, that is a wrap from the Cinema Wellman Bar as we celebrated Godzilla Day 2026.

We hope you’re with us next time for our 5th installment of our “City Spotlight” series as we take a cinematic tour of The Windy City, Second City, City of Big Shoulders, Mud City, City by the Lake, Chi-town itself, Chicago, Illinois.

We may need to make Chicago dogs for that episode.

Until then, take care.
